Collegedunia, a popular search engine and information site for colleges in India recently raised Rs 1 crore ($162,787) via angel funding. The site got the required funding from Umang Kumar, who is the CEO of Gaadi.com.
According to official sources, a bunch of undisclosed investors also pumped in the funds to boost the functioning of Collegedunia.
“The raised funds will be utilised in enhancing the technology, operations and for marketing,” said Sahil Chalana, Founder, Collegedunia.
Collegedunia basically provides information related to around 700 colleges across India. Students and parents will be able to get information such as admission criteria, fee structure, course details, faculty details, examination details, hostel fee and other available facilities in each college.
The company is working hard to populate their database with 7000 to 9000 colleges in upcoming 6 months. In the near future, you will be able to view a detailed list of coaching institutes, polytechnic institutes and entrance exams details. Collegedunia will soon become the Zomato of the education industry.
Collegedunia earns revenue from the combination of listing and lead generation. The company employs around 30 staff across technology, content, call centre and sales departments. They also plan to hire 50 additional employees before July 2015.
Collegedunia attracts one lakh visitors per month and is hoping to increase this number to a million in six months through aggressive marketing.
We expect that Collegedunia will most likely attract additional visitors through Android and Windows Phone apps in 2015.
