Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai – An Overview

Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai is one of the Institutes of National Importance recognized by Government of India. It is one of the top B. Tech colleges in India.

In order to secure an admission, students need to pass Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) with high rank. Nowadays, there are two exams – Preliminary and Main.

Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai is located 10 kilometre from Chennai Airport and 12 km from Chennai Central Railway Station. It is a residential institute with nearly 550 faculty, 8000 students and 1250 administrative & support staff. Students are not allowed to stay at home. They should stay inside the allocated hostels for the whole period of four years. However, students are allowed to visit their homes during vacations.

Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai consist of 16 academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories organized in a unique pattern of functioning.

In order to improve the quality of higher education in India, IIT Madras has come up with an initiative called NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) in the year 1999.

Students have an opportunity to participate in music, hiking, literary, wild-life, astronomy, astronomy and photography.

Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai has a clinical lab, a dispensary and an operation theatre which provides excellent medical care for both students and faculties. Moreover, students will also be able to play football, cricket, tennis and hockey with the help of various facilities.
