Microsoft has abolished the yearly renewal registration fee for Windows Dev Center registrations. This means you only need to pay a one-time registration payment. It enables developers to submit apps to both the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store, with no annual renewal fee.

“This change is effective immediately. Each of our 600,000+ registered developers will no longer need to pay any additional fees to maintain their account”, said Todd Brix, Program Manager, Microsoft.

Microsoft will also continue to invest in advertising platform for apps. The early results of the new features show that the ad revenue in Windows Phone apps is increasing at a faster pace than before.

Microsoft also announced a new Windows dev center benefits program with three packages. The explorer package enable developers to get start quickly with design and architecture guidance and consulting help from a Microsoft expert, Gift Cards, and Dev Center registration fee.

With the help of expert package, developers will be able to reach out to more users with advertising offers and a publishing contract. The dev center benefits include a master package with VIP access to developer marketing, support in addition to early access to SDK.

“Developers move from Explorer to Expert, then to Master as your apps get more downloads, higher revenue, better ratings, and improved app experiences. The offers help your app in each of these areas”, says Todd in his blog post.

The Windows dev center benefits program is open to all registered Windows developers as well as developers that want to bring their apps to Windows or Windows Phone.
