Windows 8 has been RTM’ed on August 1, 2012. Don’t know what is RTM? It stands for Release to Manufacturing. This means that Windows 8 will be available for computer manufacturers such as HP, Lenovo, Dell, Sony and much more.
The PC makers can build systems including laptops and desktops and can install Windows 8 on them for sales. However, the machines will be available for purchase only after the public release slated on October 26, 2012.
As a user, you will be able to pre order systems from the end of September and you will get new systems powered with Windows 8 immediately after October 26. You will also view advertisements with the caption “Microsoft Recommends Windows 8 Ultimate” very soon in your local newspapers.MSDN subscribers will be able to download Windows 8 starting from August 15, 2012.
However, there are unconfirmed reports that Microsoft is planning to abandon the usage of the term “Metro” as a German firm has threatened to sue the world’s biggest software maker as its usage violates copyright. Microsoft legal team has asked all developers not to use the term “Metro” in software applications.
