Microsoft Appoints Puneet Chandok To Scale India Operations

Microsoft has appointed Puneet Chandok as the new Corporate Vice President of Microsoft India and South Asia. Puneet will take charge from September 1, 2023, from Anant Maheshwari. He will manage operational responsibilities, sales, and integration of Microsoft’s businesses across South Asia. This includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The main work of Puneet will be to strengthen Microsoft’s presence in the region with key focus on various industry partners. He will likely adopt a customer-centric approach with core emphasis on Generative AI. His task will be to increase the awareness of Bing Chat, which makes use of GPT-enabled AI technology.

Microsoft has appointed Puneet when the company is gearing up for a significant market expansion. He will have to boost the growth of Microsoft Azure and AI-enabled digital innovation. He will have to enhance the partner ecosystem including the expansion of a new data center in Hyderabad. Microsoft’s growth is attributed to India’s emergence as a global innovation hub. The Redmond-based software giant has contributed immensely to India’s economic progress and inclusive economic agenda.

According to reports, ChatGPT is finding it hard to sustain in the AI business and is rumored to shut down in 2024. If this happens, then Microsoft will take over ChatGPT. Google will not take over OpenAI’s ChatGPT because they have their own language model integrated with Google Bard AI.

Puneet Chandok joined Microsoft after serving a great role with Amazon. He was in charge of India and South Asia business for AWS, where he worked with enterprises, digital businesses, startups, and SMBs to boost innovation. before joining Amazon, Puneet worked with IBM and McKinsey in senior role capacities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce including diplomas in Computer Programming, networking, and Computer Systems. He holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
