The number of Internet users in the country is expected to go up to 500 million, from the present over 400 million, in next 5 to 8 months, reveals Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Prasad told presspersons that the number of people using Internet in India has crossed 400 million. He also predicts this figure will go up to 500 million in the next 5 to 8 months.
Nearly 70 percent people are going to access Internet through mobile phones, Prasad told a gathering at a function
organized by Indore Management Association.
Prasad also added that about 1 billion people out of the estimated 1.25 billion people in India have mobile phones. Moreover, nearly 2 to 3.5 billion new mobile users are added every day.
“The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is trying to awaken the efficiency and innovation in the public. We are constantly simplifying the government policies and procedures for good governance and development,” Prasad said amid claps.
While the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government is known for the construction of National Highways, the current government led by Narendra Modi will be known for setting up Information Highways.
The Minister also added that there are approximately 950 million Aaadhar card holders in the country and the government has made it mandatory to leverage the benefits offered by the various services. However, he declined to comment when asked about the Supreme Court intervention.
