Microsoft has implemented simplified browser based authoring and configuration experience for load testing. It ultimately reduces to three simple options as mentioned below
- URL you want to test
- How many users
- How long do you want the load test to run for
In order to work with this new feature, you need to navigate to your Visual Studio Online account home page. There you will view options such as Load test hub or Load Test Tile.
You will be able to navigate to the page where you can start load testing your app upon selecting any one of the above options. Alternatively, you can also specify other settings such as how many users, duration, think time and browser distribution.
“The only option that doesn’t have a default is your application’s public URL,” said Charles Sterling, Program Manager, Microsoft.
Developers will be able to create complex tests with more scenarios by customizing load test using Visual Studio Ultimate by adding multiple URLs, generating load on your app in various patterns and increasing the user load, adding data sources, monitoring application performance along with the load run and generating trends.
Charles has demonstrated a scenario where the application performs abnormally despite no errors during the generation of load in his recent blog post.
With the help of load testing in Visual Studio, you will be able to view the output report either in Visual Studio Online or the Visual Studio Ultimate as well as compare load test runs between the made from Visual Studio Online to those made in the Visual Studio Ultimate.
As you can see, Visual Studio Ultimate has got several improvements that enable developers to effectively optimize their applications.
