Windows Defender is an entry level spyware program which ships with Windows 7. The tool performs a scan of your hard drive and removes any potential spyware or malware, which may have accidently entered your computer. If you don’t know, Spywares enter a PC silently when you are browsing the web. Hence, you should visit only those sites which are trusted.
You can locate Windows Defender inside Control Panel. You will view a screen as shown below

In order to perform a scan, you can either click Scan Now button or select an appropriate option from the Scan menu located on the top of the user interface as shown below

Please note that time required to perform a scan varies depending upon the configuration of your computer. The scan time will be less in high end systems such as powered with Intel Corei7 Processor.
